This past weekend the team hit the road for our first away trip. We spent all week preparing for the tournament in Indianapolis by focusing on what we needed to do better on our side of the net as well as scouting the four opponents we would face over the weekend.
The team watched film of ourselves from the Chicagoland Classic and then later broke up into groups to watch the film specifically for our different positions. In our groups of middle hitters, outside hitters, setters, and defenders we all looked at the film to get a better perspective on what we need to do to contribute to the team and be successful. Looking at film of the other teams we would be playing over the weekend was also a large part of our preparation for the weekend. The team watched film and went over the different offense and defense systems that we would be seeing throughout the weekend.
Traveling as a team is always a fun experience, especially being in the BIG EAST and getting to see so much of the country. Although this weekend was only a short bus trip to Indianapolis, we still had fun as a team on the bus and getting ready to play. Players and coaches brought a variety of movies that we had the opportunity to watch on the bus. And of course, we had plenty of snacks to last throughout the weekend.
The IUPUI tournament consisted of us, IUPUI, Austin Peay, Wright State, and Western Michigan. Unlike many preseason tournaments, this weekend we got the opportunity to play all of the teams that were there. We had both our good and bad moments on the court and ended up finishing fifth in the tournament. Even though we had a rough weekend, it was extremely encouraging knowing how much faith our coaching staff has in our developing program. The support the team receives from our coaches, family, and fans in addition to knowing how much desire we all have to be a great team makes every day of this season more and more exciting.
This upcoming weekend we are hosting the DePaul Invitational in McGrath Arena! It will be a great chance to dominate on our home court and prepare for conference play. Our first match is at 7:30 against Radford. Hope to see you there!
