Hey Blue Demon Volleyball Fans!!

Hope all is well and everyone is managing to enjoy the frequently changing weather out there!  It's really starting to feel like fall in Chicago.  I'm hoping to carve a few pumpkins in the next few weeks in preparation for Halloween which happens to also be our last weekend of matches at home!

This past weekend the team took flight to compete against two of the farthest schools from Chicago in the BIG EAST Conference; Georgetown and the University of South Florida.  This particular trip is definitely one of my favorites.  The team gets the opportunity to see the nation's capital in addition to enjoying some sun in Tampa, Florida.  While at Georgetown, the team passed by the Pentagon and got to see a lot of the historical monuments that surround the school's campus.  As for the volleyball match on Friday, the team hit a few bumps in the road as a result of injuries, but other girls on the team were quick to step-up and contribute to the team in whatever way they could.  The match was as quick paced, as it was exciting, but the Hoyas managed to edge us in the fourth set.  I know that I am personally hoping we get the opportunity to play this team in the BIG EAST Championship.  It would definitely be an awesome, awesome rematch.

As our trip to Washington D.C. ended our coaches surprised us with a little treat.  For those who are familiar with the TLC show "D.C. Cupcakes", the team got to enjoy the famous cupcakes that this bakery creates after our match at Georgetown.  I'm happy to say that this dessert lived up to its reputation.  Early Saturday morning the team traveled down to Tampa.  After narrowly avoiding a storm in DC, the weather for the remainder of the weekend was fantastic.  Our match at South Florida was fun and the team showed glimpses of playing its best volleyball yet.  We won the first set 25-11 and then played three more close sets before falling to South Florida.  It's awesome knowing the high level our team is capable of playing at.   We must be able to play at that high level during the entire match, even against our toughest opponents.

This weekend the team will be traveling to Cincinnati and Louisville for more BIG EAST competition.  These matches should be action packed and a great opportunity for our team to show what we are capable of in the Conference!  It should be, without a doubt, an exciting weekend!

Go Blue!
