The Chicago Boys and Girls Club is an after-school program that keeps young people off the streets and provides an opportunity to get involved in constructive activities. Before the recent introduction of a volleyball program to the Yancey Center at 6245 S. Wabash Ave., there were not a lot of activities for girls. Since the addition of volleyball, there has been a faithful showing of girls ages 11-18 eager to learn about the sport.
DePaul head coach Nadia Edwards and assistant coaches Marie Zidek and Phuong Luong conducted a two-hour clinic on May 17th teaching the basic skills while Blue Demon players Ally Rooks, Natalie Rizzo and Amy Lanski demonstrated techniques and interacted with the young ladies. Each participant received a DePaul volleyball T-shirt.
"I loved seeing the smiles on each of the young ladies faces during the clinic. They had a high level of intensity and were truly excited to be involved. We look forward to returning for more clinics and building our relationship with the Yancey Boys and Girls Club. We also would like to give the young ladies from the clinic a chance to visit DePaul University's campus and attend a few of our matches in the fall."
