Women's Basketball: Brittany Hrynko

Hey DePaul Fans,

It's Brittany Hrynko again! And with the season creeping up on us I think all of us on the team are very excited! While practices are going great and we are continuing to get better, Jasmine Penny and I got a chance to go represent our team in New York for BIG EAST Media Day.

This is an event where each BIG EAST team sends a couple players to New York City along with their head coach. We all get a chance to not only talk to the media all day, but also walk around the city and explore the different sites. Although we were far from Chicago, I was comfortable with the city because it is on the East Coast and my home (Philadelphia) is not far from there.

It was about 8:45 p.m. by the time we got to New York and checked into the hotel. Coach Bruno then explained to Jazz and I that if we were to leave the hotel to make sure we did not go alone, and to basically stay together and let him know when we got back in. After Jazz and I got to our awesome room, we changed and went out exploring and found a place for dinner. After wondering around we found the Hillstone and decided to eat there. It was the most amazing place we've eaten in a long time. While Jazz had a Hawaiian Rib-Eye Steak and a baked potato, I had a red tail snapper - which is fish, and it was seasoned in some type of lemon juice. It was a great dinner. After dinner, we went back to the hotel and got a good night's rest.

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we got ready to go to Chelsea Piers for Media Day. I was nervous when we arrived, but after a couple minutes I was able to relax and enjoy the day. I spoke with many different media outlets about DePaul being picked to win the BIG EAST Conference, and also about being selected for BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year. Although those accomplishments and awards sound nice, they are only previews. Coach Bruno talks to us a lot about previews and reviews and, because we are preseason picks, it does not mean we actually have accomplished our goals. Therefore, we have to keep working hard and getting better in every practice. With games around the corner, we are learning a lot of new basketball information and I think if we all lead each other on and off the court then we will be able to live up to the big expectations.

Overall, BIG EAST Media Day was a great experience! It was my first time going and I look forward to going back next year! But, right now, it is time to keep working and get better individually and also as team so we can turn those previews into reviews!

To quote Coach Bruno -- "Previews are nice, but reviews... LAST FOREVER!"
Always great to check in, I will write again soon!

Remember, Bring the Blue!
