The DePaul women's tennis team conducted a clinic May 19th at the Girls in the Game Olympics at McGuane Park in the city's Bridgeport community. More than 200 girls from the ages of 8-14 participated in the event which included games and clinics in tennis, flag football, basketball and field sports.
Blue Demon coach Mark Ardizzone, graduate assistant coach Katarina Milinkovic and their entire team of Gia McKnight, Cali Gustafson, Kelsey Lawson, Patricia Fargas, Jasmin Kling, Rebeca Mitrea and Carolin Neumann introduced the sport to the Girls in the Game participants.
"It was a great event," Ardizzone said. Most of the girls had come out and watched us beat SMU in February. For many of them, the clinic was their first time discovering the sport of tennis close up.
"Our players had a great time showing them how to play a sport they might not have a chance to get involved with. Hopefully we sparked an interest and inspired some future Blue Demons to pursue the game we all love."
