DePaul's Captain's Council Donates Shoes to ?Share Your Soles?

CHICAGO -- The DePaul Athletics Captains’ Council collected over 135 pairs of shoes which will be donated to “Share Your Soles.”  The Council collected shoes in February and March and then spent today cleaning the shoes before delivering them to the Alsip, Ill. processing center.

“Share Your Soles” has delivered over 900,000 shoes to the needy in over 25 countries as well as throughout the United States.  Started in 1999, SYS collects shoes for children as well as adults and are then sorted and boxed up in the organization’s 400,000-square-foot warehouse in Chicago’s suburb of Alsip.

Blue Demon student-athletes choose today to clean the shoes as part of DePaul’s Day for Haiti – a day in which the University came together to help those affected by the earthquake 2010.  Haiti is a country that SYS delivers shoes too regularly.

The DePaul Captains’ Council is comprised of captains from each varsity sport as well as other student-athlete leaders who conduct service projects each quarter.

In the 2010 winter quarter the Captains’ Council reached out to student-athletes as well as the University Community to collect shoes for its 2010 drive.  The Council also put together a drive in 2005 following the Dec. 26, 2004 Tsunami.
