Purnell and Bruno Put on a Meet and Greet Full Court Press

CHICAGO -- On a picturesque day on DePaul's Lincoln Park Campus, Blue Demon head men's basketball coach Oliver Purnell and head women's basketball coach Doug Bruno greeted and interacted with DePaul students, faculty and staff outside the Student Center located on the corner of Sheffield and Belden.

"It was great to meet so many DePaul University students today" Purnell said. "It is obvious that they are looking for some excitement on the basketball court and we are looking for to giving it to them."

The Blue Demon coaches along with some of their staff talked with hundreds of people from the DePaul community who are preparing for the end of the spring quarter and finals.

"I was very surprised to see Coach Purnell and Bruno today," journalism graduate student Drew Olson said. "I am happy to see Coach Purnell making himself visible on campus and to see him reaching out to the students.  It was a real pleasure to meet Coach Purnell, it seems like he is off to a great start here."

Purnell and Bruno will be key components in DePaul's summer campaign to build enthusiasm around the upcoming 2010-11 basketball season.

"With our motto being 'Same Tradition, New Era' our coaches wanted to make an effort to reach out to our students before they went home for the summer," director of Athletics Jean Lenti Ponsetto said.

"We want to thank our students for their support of our athletic events and the tremendous role they play in building school pride on our campus," Ponsetto added.

This summer the DePaul coaches will be reaching out to students, alumni and Blue Demon fans at various event and functions throughout the Chicagoland area.  Some of events this summer include Chicago Cubs Rooftops for donors and season ticket holders, Coaches Caravan events at local restaurants in the city and suburbs as well as three departmental golf outings.
