Hollembeak shifts role in DePaul athletics from academic advising to senior woman administrator

CHICAGO – DePaul athletics director Jean Lenti Ponsetto announced today that Dr. Jill Hollembeak has been named Senior Associate Athletics Director. Hollembeak has worked in DePaul’s athletics academic advising department since 2005 prior to being named to her current position.

Her strong skills as an outstanding administrator, collaborator and decision maker along with her experience as a highly successful coach and accomplished world-class athlete covers every dimension of what DePaul athletics requires to move our programs to the next level,” said Ponsetto. “Jill has been successful at every turn in her career path, for those accomplishments and her dedicated commitment to the Vincentian Mission of DePaul University, she has the unwavering respect of our student-athletes, coaches and entire University community that will serve DePaul well as she joins our senior staff. We are all looking forward to her contributions.”
As an assistant director of academic advising at DePaul, Hollembeak handled a variety of student-athlete initiatives including NCAA Live Skills Programming, the Mock Interview Alumni Mentor Program and the Career Development Program. She also managed the academic advising services for the women’s basketball and men’s tennis programs and served on a variety of DePaul University’s Department of Student Affairs committees.
“I am greatly looking forward to serving DePaul University and our athletics department in this new role,” said Hollembeak. “I hope to build upon the winning foundation created by Jean Lenti Ponsetto, Kathryn Statz, our coaches and athletics staff to ensure our student-athletes continue to be champions in the classroom, on the field of play and within our DePaul and Chicagoland communities.”
Prior to DePaul, Hollembeak served as a head coach and administrator at Illinois State University. She was an assistant director at the Karen L. Bone Athletic Study Center at Illinois State from 2001-04 that followed a five-year stint as head coach of the ISU gymnastics program from 1996-01.
Hollembeak led the Redbird gymnastics program to top 10 national rankings both competitively and academically. The 2001 team was ranked as high as sixth nationally and fourth in the team academic rankings. That team also qualified for the NCAA Regionals and Hollembeak was named NCAA South Central Region Coach of the Year.
An accomplished tumbler and gymnast, Hollembeak was a three-time world champion and six-time national champion in power tumbling and was also a five-time national champion in platform tumbling. She is a USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame member and a World Acrobatic Society Hall of Legends Member as well as a Hall of Fame honoree at Illinois State.
Hollembeak completed her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from DePaul in 2015 and also holds a M.S. in Kinesiology and a B.S. in Exercise Science from Illinois State.
