BIG EAST Recognizes 2011-12 All-Academic Team

July 27, 2012

CHICAGO – The BIG EAST Conference has announced the names of more than 3,300 student-athletes who have been selected to the 2011-12 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.

Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST's 16 member institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.

The nominations are reviewed and approved by the BIG EAST Academic Affairs Committee. There are 3,370 honorees for the 2011-12 academic year, an increase of 134 student-athletes from the 3,236 named for the 2010-11 season.

DePaul is represented by 150 student-athletes on the academic honor list. The 2011-12 total eclipses the 2010-11 mark of 148 student-athletes and is the second-highest total since DePaul joined the BIG EAST Conference. A total of 166 student-athletes were honored for the 2009-10 academic year.
