Patton to Represent DePaul at BIG EAST Student-Athlete Advisory Council
CHICAGO Blue Demon softball All-American Amber Patton will represent DePaul at the annual BIG EAST Student-Athlete Advisory Council meeting on September 26-27 in Providence, R.I.
"We are thrilled to be able to send a student-athlete with Amber's leadership experience to represent DePaul at the BIG EAST Council meeting,” DePaul Athletics Director Jean Lenti Ponsetto said. “Amber has a unique understanding of national issues involving intercollegiate athletics, and will bring a great maturity along with the experience of competing in an NCAA championship to the group."
Off the field Patton is a two year member of DePaul’s Captains' Council. The Forsyth, Ill. native has also attended the NCAA Leadership Conference as well.
Patton had a stellar season on the field in 2008 as she was named the team's Most Outstanding Player after becoming the softball program's 22nd All-American earning second-team honors at third base. She led the team in hitting for the third consecutive season and captured the BIG EAST Conference batting title with a .403 average. Patton tallied a school record and conference-best 87 hits on the season, while her 216 at bats also set a school record. A first team All-BIG EAST selection, Patton recorded 158 assists and 69 putouts for an impressive .970 fielding percentage. Known for her speed and smart base running, Patton also tallied a team-best 14 stolen bases.
