More Information Online: Open Streets on State Street
CHICAGO – The DePaul men’s and women’s basketball teams along with the Screamin’ Demons Band, cheerleaders, dance team and DIBS will be in Chicago’s Loop on Saturday for the Open Streets on State Street event. The Oct. 1 event is a celebration of community and culture in Chicago’s Loop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
An initiative of the Chicago Loop Alliance and the Active Transportation Alliance, Open Streets allows everyone—college students in particular—to experience Chicago’s historic street from Lake to Van Buren as it is transformed into the ultimate, car-free urban playground. The DePaul students will perform at various times between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at State Street and Jackson Boulevard, home of DePaul’s Loop Campus.
Open Streets features a host of activities including a modular skate park, “imagination” playground, a dunk tank and breakdancing demonstrations. Several Loop businesses are offering special discounts that day at restaurants, retail destinations and cultural institutions.
