Wagle promoted to lead sports performance department
Following a year as assistant director of sports performance, John Wagle was promoted to director of the department in July 2014. Wagle joined the DePaul athletics department in August 2013 as an assistant director of sports performance prior to the promotion and he replaces Mac Calloway.
As director of sports performance, Wagle oversees the sports performance operation for all 15 intercollegiate programs while primarily working with the men's basketball team. As assistant director, Wagle primarily worked with DePaul's softball, women's soccer, men's track, women's track and men's tennis programs and assisted with developing the entire sports performance program. His areas of interest in sports performance include speed and power development methods, movement efficiency and strength training as injury prevention
The Rock Island, Illinois native was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Western Illinois University prior to accepting the position at DePaul in August 2013. While working for the Leathernecks, he assisted in all sport-specific training protocols. He also worked at Dominican University from August 2011-July 2012 as strength and conditioning coach and an assistant baseball coach.
Wagle received his Bachelor's degree in Arts in Physics and Business Management from Augustana College and earned a Master's of Science degree from Western Illinois, Master's of Nonprofit Administration degree from North Park University and a Master's of Business Administration degree from Loyola Chicago.
After graduating from Augustana, Wagle played independent league baseball for the San Angelo Colts, Rockford Riverhawks, Joliet Slammers and Fargo-Moorhead Red Hawks.
