Sports Medicine

The Department of Sports Medicine at DePaul University is responsible for the care of our student-athletes, including the prevention and treatment of any injuries.  The goals and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Reduce the risk of injury through physical screening, conditioning programs and education.

2. Should an injury occur, be available for consultation, make necessary referrals to a qualified physician or other specialist, and develop a treatment and rehabilitation program for the student-athlete.

3. Act as a liaison between the doctor, coach, parents and athlete to ensure that everyone has a full understanding of the capabilities or limitations the injury imposes.

4. Educate the student-athlete so that he/she understands his/her injury, responsibilities for rehabilitation, and the future implications for participation.

5. Serve as final decision maker in situations where an injury has taken a student-athlete away from practice and/or competition and appropriate time and mode of return must be determined.
