Men's team comes in third and women's team fifth for best BIG EAST finishes in program history

DePaul throwers have experienced tremendous success under Murer's guidance. Brad Millar became the first Blue Demon to win a BIG EAST individual title as he won the hammer throw at the 2007 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. Two more conference champions were crowned in 2008 when Millar successfully defended his title, and Mellissa Fraser became the first female BIG EAST Champion for DePaul when she won the javelin throw. Fraser went on to become the first female thrower to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.From 2005 to 2008,Blue Demon throwers set seven new DePaul records,while posting six qualifications for the NCAA Regional Championships culminating in one berth to the National Championships.
During the 2009-2010 season, Murer guided four throwers to new heights. Brad Millar was the BIG EAST Champion in the hammer throw and the 35lb weight throw, Millar became an All-American when he finished in 7th in the hammer throw at the NCAA Championships. Tim Nedow set a new DePaul record in the discus and was an NCAA Finals Qualifier in the shot put.
In the 2011-12 season, Matt Babicz won the BIG EAST Outdoor title in the shot put and competed in the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Nedow was the BIG EAST Outdoor discus champion and was named BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performer.
On the women's side in 2010, Melissa Fraser set two school records, one in the hammer throw and another in the javelin. Fraser was also a NCAA First Round Qualifier in both of those events. Alanna Kovacs was a NCAA Finals Qualifier in the javelin and also broke a DePaul record in the discus.
In 2011-12, both Fraser and Kovacs competed in the the javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Murer came up at Indiana State, where he was a four-year varsity letter winner followed by two seasons with the Sycamores as an assistant coach. As a student assistant in 1997-98, he helped six throwers to earn All-Missouri Valley Conference accolades. He also helped guide a hammer thrower to a MVC championship.
During the 1999-2000 season, Murer was named a volunteer assistant at Indiana State where he worked with all throwers and multi-event athletes. He helped three athletes break school records, 20 meet records and three MVC records. Under Murer's direction he developed 18 MVC placers, six all-conference athletes and one All-American weight thrower.
Following a successful collegiate coaching stint, Murer was named an assistant coach at Danville Community High School in Indiana. As the throws coach at Danville, he developed the Indiana State High School runner-up in shot put and several regional and sectional champions.
Along with his duties with theDePaul throwers, Murer supervises the Blue Demon workouts and serves as the recruiting coordinator. He has coached 13 BIG EAST champions, four NCAA regional qualifiers, 15 NCAA Round 1 qualifiers, 10 NCAA Outdoor Championships qualifiers, two NCAA Indoor Championships qualifiers, one NCAA First Team All-American (Millar) and four NCAA Second Team All-Americans (Nedow in discus and indoor shot put, Fraser, Kovacs).
Murer graduated from Indiana State University in 1997 with a degree in Fine Arts. He resides in Chicago.
