Stephanie Townsend, who joined the Blue Demon coaching staff as a graduate assistant in 2009, took over as part-time assistant coach before the 2011-12 track and field season and was promoted to full-time assistant in July 2014. In the first two seasons of her full-time role, Townsend has coached in a variety of areas within the cross country and track & field programs, with a focus on short sprints, 100m and 110m hurdles and relays.

Over the 2014-15 and 2015-16 indoor and outdoor seasons, Townsend helped coach BIG EAST champions in 14 different events, the BIG EAST Men’s Most Outstanding Track Athlete in 2015 and a two-time NCAA Preliminary qualifier in 2016. In the DePaul record books, student-athletes under the direction of Townsend have set program records in 10 of her focused events.

Prior to joining the staff, Townsend spent four years as a student-athlete at DePaul where set five sprint and relay school-records while tallying numerous BIG EAST Conference qualification marks.

Townsend led the Blue Demons sprinters throughout her four year career, routinely topping the DePaul performance lists in all sprint categories. During her senior year, Townsend was named the outdoor squad's Most Outstanding Performer after placing fourth at the 2009 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship in the 200m.

During the 2009 indoor season, Townsend tied Kim Smith's 60m record to earn a spot in the history books. The prior season, she set the indoor 200m DePaul record after clocking a time of 22.49 to replace Sherri Bean's 21 year old mark.

Townsend earned her undergraduate degree in Communication from DePaul in the spring of 2009. During her stint as graduate assistant, Townsend worked toward her master's degree from the College of Communication and earned the journalism-concentrated degree in June 2011.
