West Lafayette, Ind. - On Saturday, DePaul men’s and women’s track and field team got 2011 underway at the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. DePaul competed against St. Ambrose and Purdue.

Tim Nedow picked up right where he left off in 2010, winning the shot put with a distance of 17.3m. Ryan Asta also competed in the shot put and placed third with a distance of 16.41.

Toni Salvatore and Tyler Schmitt represented the Blue Demons in the mile. Salvatore finished in first place with a career-best time of 5:05.42 and Schmitt placed second with a time of 4:29.75. Mary Cate Quiett also competed for the women in the mile and finished in a time of 5:10.1.

Freshman Elizabeth Jefferson raced in the 400m dash, and finished in a time of 58.96 to place second. Rebecca Adamcheck, Corrie Castro and Laura Wilson took sixth, seventh and eighth place.

The Blue Demons travel to the Loftus Sports Center in Madison, Wis., for the Badger Track Classic on Saturday Jan. 15. A week later on Jan. 22 DePaul heads back to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational.
