MADISON, Wis. - DePaul sprinters got the new year off to a fast start Saturday at the Badger Classic Track Meet.

Jordon Vaughn won the men's 60-meter dash with a BIG EAST Conference qualifying time of 6.83 seconds that equals a school record. Teammate Tonderai Tomu was third in the race with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 7.04.

In the men's 200m dash, freshman Brandon Threats ran a BIG EAST qualifying time of 22.69 seconds. Ayesha Ewing ran a season-best 7.78 seconds in winning the women's 60m dash and just missed on a BIG EAST qualifying time.

Anthony Babicz led the Blue Demon throwers with a BIG EAST qualifying mark of 14.96 meters in the men's shot put. Jazmyne Durrah had a personal best of 18.11 meters in the women's weight throw.

DePaul track and field coach Dave Dopek was pleased with his team's performance.

"I thought we had a good meet, and we really came out strong in the 60 meters," Dopek said. "Our throwers---especially Anthony Babicz and Jazmyne Durrah---did well.

"This was the first meet where we brought pretty much the entire team. It was good to get the rust off following our break."

Ian Sanchez won the men's 800m run in a time of 1:59.16. Lindsey Holden, Tayler Whittler, Erin McCoy and Loreal Curtis teamed up to win the women's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:56.73.

The Blue Demons compete in the Notre Dame Opener next Saturday at Notre Dame.
