NOTRE DAME, Ind. – It was quite a pleasant bus ride home for Dave Dopek on Saturday.

The DePaul track and field coach enjoyed counting up all the promising results from the Blue Demons’ competition at the Notre Dame Invitational Indoor Track Meet.

“There were a lot of positives all the way around,” Dopek said. “It was a great event to help springboard us onto the rest of the season.

“Several personal records were run today. The core group of sprinters had an excellent meet. And Jazmyne Durrah’s record-breaking performance is a sign of things to come.”

Durrah’s weight throw toss of 18.65 meters set a new school record, surpassing Jamie Holifield’s mark of 18.49 meters set in 2007. That effort landed Durrah a second-place finish at Saturday’s meet. She also had an impressive mark of 13.48 meters in the shot put.

Dopek was happy with a sizeable group of first-time qualifiers for the BIG EAST Conference Indoor Championships. Jackie Kasal had her ticket punched to the conference meet after finishing the 1000-meter run in a time of 2:57.99.

Lindsey Holden (57.35) and Loreal Curtis (57.53) both qualified in the 400m. Ayesha Ewing qualified in the 200m with a time of 25.14.

On the men’s side, Chris Miedema will be competing in the BIG EAST meet after posting a time of 2:26.75 in the 1000m.

Jordon Vaughn (21.97) and Mac Melto (22.49) both qualified in the 200m. Vaughn also won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.92 and was third in the 200m.

Next up for the Blue Demons is the Spire Institute Midwest Open Friday and Saturday in Geneva, Ohio---site of the BIG EAST Indoor Championships.
