GENEVA, Ohio - You could say DePaul had a medley of good performances Friday night.

The Blue Demon men's and women's distance medley relays teams left a smile on DePaul coach Dave Dopek's face at the Spire Institute Midwest Indoor Track & Field Open.

The men's relay of Eddie McDaniel, Mac Melto, Ian Sanchez and Chris Miedema came in third with a time of 10:13.07.

"It was nice to have Eddie McDaniel back in the lead role," Dopek said. "Mac Melto came right behind Eddie and ran a very good split. Ian and Chris ran well and gave us reason to be optimistic about more impressive performances to come."

Dopek said a miscount by meet officials accidently resulted in the DePaul women's distance medley relay team running 300 meters less in the first leg and 300 meters longer in the final leg. Nora Smith led off the relay and was followed by Lindsey Holden, Alexandra Muller and Jackie Kasal.

"It was pretty unusual," Dopek said. "Because of the mistake, there was no official time. But I could see our athletes were running very well.

"If they can run as well as they did tonight with the appropriate distances, it bodes well for all of them as we continue preparing for the BIG EAST Conference meet. They will all be sharper for having run the DMR here."

There were just four events run on Friday with rest of the competition taking place beginning at 9 a.m. Chicago time on Saturday with the women's 4x800m relay in track and the men's shot put in the field events.
