BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A couple of familiar names to the followers of DePaul athletics emerged as the brightest stars Saturday on the final day of the Indiana Relays.

Tim Nedow and Matthew Graham eclipsed DePaul indoor track records in their respective events at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse.

Nedow came through with a meet-winning shot put mark of 20.03 meters---the second consecutive week he has surpassed 20 meters. Graham was third in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:13.06.

"It was another big performance by Tim," said DePaul track and field coach Dave Dopek. "It was a two-centimeter improvement over last week and proved to Tim and others that last week's 20.01 meters shot put at the Notre Dame Invitational was no fluke.

"He is a legitimate 20-meter shot putter now, and that's a big deal.

"Matthew Graham was phenomenal in the 5K run. The time he ran was a personal best for him."

Dopek was also pleased with the performance of freshman Loreal Curtis in the women's 400-meter run. She finished eighth in a personal best time of 57.17.

"The way she ran shows Loreal is starting to learn how to run in that event indoors" Dopek said. "Being from Texas, there are not very many opportunities to run indoors.

"Actually, Loreal had only run in one indoor meet before this year."

Dopek pointed out that Chris Miedema's time of 1:55.04 in the men's 800-meter run qualified the sophomore from Ontarlo for the BIG EAST Conference Championships.

"I thought the women's 4x400 meters relay team had a nice performance at the end of the meet," Dopek said. "It's nice to see them getting better at working together."

The Blue Demons resume their indoor track season Friday at the two-day Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame.
