NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- With less than two weeks left before the 2014 BIG EAST Indoor Championships, the DePaul track and field teams wrapped up the final day of the Meyo Invitational on Saturday with several strong performances.

The Meyo Invite was the sixth meet of the season for the Blue Demons and last until Feb. 21-22 when they travel to Armory, N.Y. for the BIG EAST Championships.

Sophomore Tayler Whittler set a new personal record in the 200-meter dashing, crossing the finish line in second place with a time of 24.50 seconds. Whittler also captured fifth in the 60 after logging a time of 7.63 seconds. She qualified for the finals of the 60 yesterday with a time of 7.60 seconds.

"It was kind of a mixed weekend but overall I am really happy with our performance, especially out of Tayler, Matt (Babicz) and Chris (Miedema)," said head coach Dave Dopek. "We got a lot of good work in an we just have to keep preparing and getting better. We have a big meet coming up in a couple of weeks."

Chris Miedema posted a pair of top-five finishes on Saturday at the Meyo. The senior took fourth in the 500-meter dash (1:04.71) and then posted a career-best time in the 800 (1:51.30) to take fourth as well.

"Chris ran really, really well today," Dopek said. "He came up really big for us."

Matt Babicz put together another strong performance in the shot put, taking second thanks to a throw of 19.23 meters. Babicz has placed in the top-three or better in all six events this season.

"Matt is a kid who has been strong for us all season," Dopek said. "He is one of our best athletes and it is great to see him put up the kind of numbers he has been putting up lately."
