DePaul Opens ISU Classic with Solid Outing

AMES, Iowa. – The DePaul track and field team wrapped up its first day of competition at the Iowa State Classic with several solid performances including top 10 finishes out of Alexandra Muller and Alanna Kovacs.
For the DePaul women, freshman Ayesha Ewing recorded her best 60-meter dash time of the season as she crossed at the 7.81 second mark for a top-30 finish. In the 400-meter, Elizabeth Jefferson just missed cracking the one minute mark when she crossed at 1:00.24.
In the 600, Muller took home a solid fifth place finish with a time of 1:26.39.
Senior thrower Kovacs finished in sixth in the shot put with a throw of 14.17 meters while freshman thrower Jazmyne Durrah placed 11th in the weight throw with a toss of 16.49 meters. Behind Durrah, senior Melissa Fraser’s weight throw distance of 15.74 meters earned her 19th and Kovacs rounded out the top 20 with a throw of 15.72 meters.
Herald Alvarez took 18th in the men's non-seeded 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:41.19. In the men's one-mile run, Ian Sanchez (4:20.02) was the first Blue Demon to cross the finish line, followed by Max Rodrigues (4:25.90). In the 800 meter run, Lucas Junk finished first among three Blue Demons with a time of 1:55.45. Also competing for the DePaul men in non-seeded events was freshman Anthony Babicz who recorded a shot put throw of 13.51 meters.
The Blue Demons resume competition tomorrow in Ames, Iowa, for the final day of the ISU Classic.
