March 28, 2014
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Just two weeks after earning All-American honors at the 2014 National Indoor Championships, DePaul senior Matt Babicz won his first outdoor event of the year on Friday afternoon.
The win came in the shot put competition at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville, Ky.
Babicz registered a throw of 18.47 meters, finishing ahead of Louisville's Steve Wade, whose throw of 16.95 meters landed him in second. Anthony Babicz (16.05m) placed fourth in the event.
Friday at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational featured just field events; the track competitions will take place tomorrow. Elsewhere today, Sarah Moss (48.94m) placed third in the discus, while Trevor Kintyhtt (53.26m) took fifth place in the men's discus.
Moss also took sixth in the hammer, while Jazmyne Durrah finished sixth in the women's shot put.
"It was a mixed bag of results, but definitely indicative of an early season meet," head coach Dave Dopek said. "Both Matt and Trevor had big days and it's great to see them start so well. Our discus ladies and Anthony Babicz had solid performances as well. We'll look to build upon that tomorrow with sprints, relays, jumps and distance."
Action from Louisville continues tomorrow afternoon.
