Melto Wins 400, Blue Demons Cap Off Weekend in Louisville
March 29, 2014
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- With temperatures in the low-40s, the DePaul track and field teams capped off the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Louisville.
The meet marked the Blue Demons' second outdoor event of the year.
Mac Melto won his first outdoor race of the year on Saturday, taking the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.56 seconds. Melto held off the second place finisher by just .05 seconds in a thrilling race. Melto's win gave DePaul its second of the weekend on the men's side; Matt Babicz won the shot put competition yesterday.
On the women's side, Taylor Hynes grabbed fifth in the 5000-meter run, finishing with a time of 18:07.06. In the 400-meter hurdles, Rebecca Adamcheck took fourth (1:06.13) and Ashley Holden finished right behind her in fifth (1:08.76).
"The temperature never rose above 42 degrees and it rained all day," head coach Dave Dopek said. "Due to the elements, high-end performances were few and far between. We still were able to put in some quality effort though, even if some of the times don't necessarily show it. This meet was all about putting in the work. We'll get back at it on Monday."
DePaul's season continues on Friday (April 4) at the Marquette quad in Milwaukee, Wis.
