ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- In its first split-squad effort of the spring, the DePaul track and field teams completed day one of competition at the Sun Angel Classic (Tempe, Ariz.) and Chicagoland Championships (Romeoville, Ill.).

Both meets are two-day events that will conclude tomorrow afternoon.

In Romeoville, Anthony Babicz won the shot put event with a throw of 15.92 meters, over one meter better than the runner-up finisher. He also took fourth in the hammer (47.70m); Sebastian Vermaas (46.56m) took fifth.

In the men's 4x800-meter relay, the Blue Demons' quartet of Regen Hatcher, Giancarlo Vasallo, Alex Amaya and Scott Arsenault placed third (7:58.53), just over two seconds off the pace for second.

The DePaul men (27 points) currently sit in third place out of 18 teams, while the women sit in eighth out of 18.

Meanwhile in Tempe, only Trevor Kintyhtt and Adam Kovacs were in action, both competing in the hammer throw. The vast majority of the events at the Sun Angel Classic will be held tomorrow.
