Nwokenkwo, Bottoms Win at Chicagoland Championships

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The DePaul track and field teams finished up play at the Chicagoland Championships in Romeoville on Saturday afternoon.
The event comes less than one week before the DePaul Blue Demon Open on April 19.
Shayna Nwokenkwo paced the Blue Demons with a win in the 100-meter dash, taking the race in 11.98 seconds. In the 800, Alex Muller's time of 2:18.97 placed her in second, while Ashley Holden posted a time of 1:07.83 in the 400-meter hurdles to take third. In the discus, Corinne Franz registered a throw of 40.87 meters, good enough for a third place finish.
On the men's side, freshman Chaz Bottoms won his second collegiate race, winning the 200-meter dash in 22.10 seconds. Fellow freshman Scott Arsenault placed second in the 800, crossing the finish line in 1:58.68.
Overall, the men finished fourth, while the women took fifth. Twenty schools competed on each side.
The Blue Demons also competed in the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., today. Additional information about the results of the meet will be posted on DePaulBlueDemons.com as results are finalized.
