TEMPE, Ariz. -- Xavier Jones and Mac Melto finished 1-2 in the men's 200-meter dash on Saturday afternoon at the Sun Angel Classic as DePaul concluded its four-to-last meet before the BIG EAST Championships in early May.
For Jones, his time of 21.63 seconds in the 200 gave him his first outdoor win as a collegiate athlete. He also finished fourth in the 100, crossing the line in 10.85 seconds. Melto, meanwhile, posted a time of 21.66 seconds for second place in the 200. Brandon Threats (21.82) took fourth in the same race.
Melto later continued to post stellar results on Saturday, placing second in the 400-meter dash with a new personal record time of 46.94 seconds.
In the women's 200, Tayler Whittler and Ayesha Ewing finished second and third, respectively, to pace the Blue Demons. Whittler logged a time of 24.70 seconds, while Ewing posted a time of 24.74 seconds. In the discus, Sarah Moss finished third, registering a toss of 47.21 meters, her second-best throw of the spring.
In the men's and women's 800-meter runs, Jackie Kasal took fourth, recording a time of 2:08.56 (a personal record that ranks 25th in the west region) and Chris Miedema posted a mark of 1:51.21, which ranks seventh in the BIG EAST. Finally, senior Matt Babicz posted his best career outdoor throw in the shot put on Saturday afternoon, registering a toss of 19.09 meters, which gave him the individual title in the men's shot put premiere competition.
DePaul's next meet will be next Saturday (April 19) when it hosts the DePaul Blue Demon Open in Chicago.
