Top Performances Highlight Illinois Twilight for Blue Demons

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – One school record and many personal bests were set Saturday evening as the DePaul track and field teams competed at the Illinois Twilight. Brian Mada broke his own triple jump record while sweeping both the long jump and triple jump events while Kiersten Walker and Jade Gates notched multiple first-place finishes.

For the third time in as many outdoor meets this season, Mada claimed first place in both the long jump and triple jump. He won the long jump with a distance of 7.38m before setting a school record for the second time this season in the triple jump. Mada leaped to a record distance of 15.74m bettering his previous mark of 15.69m at the UNF Spring Break Invitational at the start of the outdoor season.

Walker posted two first-place finishes in the 200m and 400m dash that included a personal best 24.41 in the 200m dash. She also won the 400m dash in a time of 56.09. In the 200m dash, Jessica Watkins finished fourth with a time of 24.89.

Gates won the javelin and hammer throws with a personal best distance of 47.43m in the javelin along with the best mark in the hammer at 50.52m. Dylan Marshall was second in the javelin at 39.05m and Rebecca Chounaird followed Gates in the hammer with a distance of 46.59m for fourth place.

Other top finishers for the Blue Demons included second-place finishes for Emily Eller (women’s shot put – 14.11m) and William Hauser (men’s javelin throw – 55.71m). In the men’s 400m dash, Sebastian Feyersinger (47.75) and Brendan Van Voorhis (49.26) went second and third while Jade Nolan (5.74m) claimed second in the women’s long jump followed by Sydnee Matthew (5.54m) in fifth and Gabrielle Howard (5.54m) in sixth place.

Jessica Watkins was third in the women’s 100m dash with a time of 12.06 with other third-place performances by Elizabeth Endy in the women’s 800m run (2:11.59) and Sebastian Feyersinger in the men’s 200m dash (21.49). Both times by Endy and Feyersinger were personal bests. The men’s 100-meter hurdles saw Kyle Decker (14.92) finish third and Evan Lowry (15.12) place fourth. DePaul placed third, fourth and fifth in the women’s triple jump with Terece Brown (11.65m), Howard (11.60m) and Nolan (11.43m). Abigail Callahan (1.65m) finished third in the women’s high jump and Caroline Muller (1.60m) was tied for fourth.

Dominic Marshall posted a pair of fifth-place finishes in the men’s discus throw (45.96m) and hammer throw (51.49m) while Jarvis Friend-Grace was fourth in the men’s 400-meter hurdles (53.80) and Ariel Davis was fifth in the women’s 100-meter hurdles (14.14).

Team scoring for the meet placed both the men’s and women’s teams in third place. The men’s team was third among the six schools competing with 128 points while the women’s team was third among seven programs with 149.50 points.

DePaul will host the DePaul Invitational on Saturday at Lane Stadium. The events are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Senior Day ceremonies will be at 10:30 a.m. to honor the track and field senior class.
