AZUSA, Calif. – Jackie Kasal went right to the front on Friday and never looked back.

The DePaul sophomore standout won the women’s 800-meter run at the Bryan Clay Invitational Track and Field Meet hosted by Azusa Pacific in a career-best time of 2:12.73.

That performance qualified Kasal for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in the 800 meters.

This latest success came 24 hours after Kasal eclipsed her personal record in the 3000m steeplechase by nearly 10 seconds at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in nearby Walnut, Calif.

“She had a great trip out West,” said DePaul track and field coach Dave Dopek. “Jackie went wire-to-wire on Friday and finished strong with another PR.

“Coming on the heels of her performance at Mt. SAC, this bodes well for Jackie as we head into the Drake Relays next week and the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in two weeks.

“Two PRs in back-to-back meets is a very good accomplishment.”

Kasal’s teammates head out to DeKalb, Ill. on Saturday for the Huskie Open.
