Strong Throws Lead Blue Demons at Saturday's Huskie Open

DE KALB, Ill. - DePaul's throwers led the way Saturday in the Huskie Open at Northern Illinois.

Blake Thompson won the discus with a BIG EAST Championships qualifying mark of 51.18 meters, easily surpassing his previous career best of 47.91m.

Adam Kovacs claimed the hammer throw title with a BIG EAST qualifying and personal-record toss of 52.21 meters---more than two meters beyond his career best.

Anthony Babicz set a personal record with a BIG EAST qualifying mark of 14.75m in the shot put while Jazmyne Durrah had a career best of 13.53m in the women's shot put.

"Blake had a good meet with his first discus throw over 51 meters," said DePaul track and field coach Dave Dopek. "It was more than three meters beyond his PR.

"Jazmyne and Anthony both had solid performances, and Adam went over 52 meters in the hammer for the first time in his career. It was more than two meters past his previous PR."

Erin McCoy set a personal record in winning the women's 400m hurdles. Julie Dambra captured the 400m dash while Nora Smith did likewise in the 800m run. Sarah Moss took first in the women's discus.

On the men's side, Robert Davis, Jr. won the 400m dash and Alex Fisher was first in the 110m hurdles. Eddie McDaniel claimed the 1500m title while Herald Alvarez and Max Rodrigues finished one-two in the 5000m run.

The Blue Demons return to action beginning Thursday at the prestigious Drake Relays.
