Track and Field Wraps Up Weekend at Drake Relays

April 26, 2014

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The DePaul track and field teams wrapped up its stay at the 2014 Drake Relays on Saturday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa.

The meet marked the second-to-last competition before the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.

"It was another decent day for us," said head coach Dave Dopek. "The men's sprint team broke the old school record by 2.5 seconds and yesterday's men's 4x4 team broke a 15-year-old record by an entire second. Those two relays were definitely the high points of the meet for us."

One of the aforementioned relay records was set by Xavier Jones, Mac Melto, Brandon Threats and Chris Miedema, who posted a time of 3:22.63 to finish 10th in the 1600-meter sprint medley.

In the shot put, senior Matt Babicz finished eighth with a throw of 17.64 meters and Jackie Kasal ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:15.42. In the women's sprint medley, Ayesha Ewing, Taylor Farley, Julie Dambra and Alexandra Muller placed 11th with a time of 4:00.66.

"Both discus throwers (Trevor Kintyhtt and Sarah Moss) also performed well this weekend," Dopek said. "The Drake Relays are always a great experience. The Relays are midwest track and field at its finest. We will now turn our focus onto the Conference Championships."

Next week's Billy Hayes Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., is the Blue Demons' final tune-up before the Championships.
