Purdue Open Friday Results Get Acrobat Reader

CHICAGO – Split between the Drake Relays and Purdue Open, the DePaul track and field team found success at both meets on Friday with Tim Nedow taking home the top spot in the men’s shot put in Des Moines.

Nedow’s series-opening throw was marked down at 17.88 meters but the senior thrower followed up with a 19.19-meter throw to take the lead. After back-to-back fouls, Nedow launched a 19.28-meter throw before finishing off the series with an outdoor career-best throw of 19.69 meters. Nedow was the only participant to register a shot put throw of over 19 meters on the day.

Also in the shot put at the Drake Relays, sophomore Matt Babicz tied his personal-best outdoor mark with a 17.98-meter throw to earn fifth.

On the women’s side, senior Melissa Fraser placed third in the women’s javelin throw against stiff competition. Her opening throw stood as her best on the day as her throw was marked down at 49.01 meters, five meters behind the first place finisher Brittany Borman of Oklahoma who finished at 54.56 meters.

At the Purdue Open, a pair of Blue Demons placed fourth in the men’s and women’s hammer throw. Freshman Jazmyne Durrah placed fourth with a 43.12-meter throw on the women’s side while fellow freshman Adam Kovacs’ throw of 44.33 meters gave him fourth as well. Freshmen Alexandra Vekich (40.80 meters) and Amanda Piche (39.15 meters) placed fifth and sixth, respectively in the same event. Anthony Babicz placed sixth with a throw of 42.92 meters on the men’s side.

The Blue Demons return to action tomorrow with the bulk of events. Nedow takes on the discus and Matthew Graham takes on the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Drake Relays while the rest of the DePaul squad competes at the Purdue Open.
