AUSTIN, Texas – At the conclusion of the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminaries, three Blue Demons walked away with berths to the outdoor finals on June 6-8 in Des Moines, Iowa.

With seniors Melissa Fraser and Alanna Kovacs heading to the finals in the javelin throw and sophomore Matt Babicz competing in the shot put finals, today served as the last chance for senior throws standout Tim Nedow to earn a bid to the finals as he took on the discus.

With all 12 qualifying throws coming in at or over 55.76 meters, Nedow’s best distance of the day—a 52.55-meter throw—was not enough to earn him that coveted spot at the national championships. The mark was Nedow’s lowest qualifying distance of the outdoor season.

Despite Nedow not qualifying, DePaul head coach Dave Dopek took pride in the effort that his Blue Demons showed at the west preliminaries.

On Fraser, Kovacs, and Babicz’s efforts this weekend, Dopek said following the meet, “I’m proud of the three of them. They really showed how bad they wanted it.”

The 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set for June 6-8 in Des Moines, Iowa, and are hosted by Drake University.
