SACRAMENTO, Calif. – DePaul’s Brian Mada placed 10th in the triple jump on Saturday at the NCAA West Preliminary meet. With his performance, he advances to the NCAA Outdoor Championships to complete at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., in two weeks. Alexia Brooks also competed on Saturday, but her bid to advance came up short in the 100-meter hurdles.

Mada’s distance of 15.63 meters placed him in 10th with the top 12 advancing to the national meet on June 8. The three-time BIG EAST triple jump champion is the first DePaul jumper to reach the NCAA Championship meet since long jump All-American Chris Stafford in 1998. The triple jump is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. PT on Friday, June 8 at Hayward Field with the top 24 triple jumpers in the nation competing for the NCAA title. TCU’s Scotty Newton was the top finisher in the west preliminary in the triple jump with a distance of 16.17 meters.

Brooks ran the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.16 and placed 24th in the quarterfinals. She advanced to Saturday after finishing 20th in Friday’s first round. The top 12 finishers in the quarterfinals moved on to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Championships. Pedrya Seymour from Texas posted the fastest time of the night at 12.80.
