Kintyhtt Qualifies for NCAA Championship

AUSTIN, Texas – The decorated season of DePaul track & field senior Trevor Kintyhtt continues after the thrower qualified for the NCAA Championship with a personal record in the men’s discus throw at the NCAA West Preliminary Saturday afternoon.

Kintyhtt took the final qualifying position in the event at 12th overall out of 48 throwers. The senior came into the event ranked 38th among declared student-athletes.

For his first throw of the day, Kintyhtt hit a mark of 51.74 meters that put him into sixth out of 16 student-athlete for the first round of throws in the flight.

The Akron, Ohio native just missed a personal record on his second toss of the afternoon. Kintyhtt recorded a throw 53.38 meters and moved up to fifth after the second round.

Kintyhtt crushed his personal best on his third and final throw by hitting 55.35 meters. The senior had the top throw of his flight and survived two other flights to earn his spot in Eugene, Ore. Reno Tuufuli from Iowa won the event with a throw of 62.06 meters.

The DePaul senior now prepares for the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore. on Friday, June 9. The men’s discus throw is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. CT.
