Mada Places 12th, Sets School Triple Jump Record

EUGENE, Ore. - DePaul's Brian Mada capped his outstanding junior season by finishing 12th in the triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Mada broke is own school record in the process on Friday night while competing against the top 24 collegiate triple jumpers in the country.

Mada's distance of 15.89 meters set a personal best and new school record for DePaul. His previous school record was 15.74 meters set earlier this season at the Illinois Twilight. Mada's best jump on Friday evening was his third jump as he posted marks of 15.13 meters and 15.51 meters in his first two jumps. His third and final jump of the evening moved him up from 14th place to finish in 12th place and he finished just a quarter-inch behind the 11th-place finisher from Kansas. With the 12th-place finish, Mada earned second team All-American honors.

Texas A&M's Tahar Triki won the event with a distance of 16.79 meters and he was followed by Texas Tech's Odaine Lewis at 16.73 meters.

Mada not only finished the outdoor season with a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Championship meet, he also won his third straight BIG EAST title in the triple jump and picked up All-BIG EAST honors and three BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week awards.
