DePaul Heads North to the Badger Track Classic
Jan. 11, 2013
CHICAGO - After a five-week break from competition, DePaul's track and field team heads to the Badger Track Classic indoor meet Saturday in Madison, Wis.
The five-team men's field is headed by Wisconsin which is ranked No. 12 in the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) national poll. The field also includes DePaul, Marquette, Milwaukee and UW Oshkosh.
A six-team women's field is led by No. 16 Wisconsin and includes DePaul, Marquette, Milwaukee, UW Oshkosh and Winona State.
"I'd like everyone to get out there and get some competitive races under their belts," said DePaul track coach Dave Dopek. "Most everyone will be running in odd events and not their primary events.
"Some of our athletes will run in shorter distances for speed work. Others will compete in longer distances to build up their endurance. All the teams will be training through the events, and everyone is building towards their conference meets."
"Jordan Vaughn is running his first race of the season, and another sprinter, Joe Turner, could have a good race in the 60-meter dash," Dopek said. "Sarah Gorden will be running the 60-meter hurdles for the first time. We have a freshman Blake Thompson in his first meet throwing the shot put."
The Blue Demons opened the indoor track season on Dec. 7 at the Blue & Gold Invitational at Notre Dame.
