Track and Field Set to Compete at the Notre Dame Indoor Opener
CHICAGO The DePaul track and field teams are set to travel to Notre Dame, Ind. for the 2009 Notre Dame Indoor Opener Friday evening at the Loftus Sports center. The meet marks the second of four times the Blue Demons will travel to Notre Dame during their indoor season. Leading off at 4:30 (CST) are long jumpers Joe Strawder, Brittany Lewis, Ivy Moffett, and Cynthia Edwards. Strawder has already notched two BIG EAST Conference qualifying marks including his season-best jump of 7.14m at the Blue and Gold Invitational hosted by the Irish. Both Edwards and Strawder are slated to compete in the triple jump as well. Alanna Kovacs, Virginia MacFabe, Ebonie Cobb, Jim Theologes, James Waller, Katie Finck, Melissa Fraser, and Brad Millar account for the Blue Demon representation in the throwing pits. MacFabe finished in first place at last weeks Purdue Invitational with a weight throw of 15.04m. Sprinting events begin a 5:45 p.m. when Erin Lakie competes in the 1,000m and Williams, Jamil Chammas, Chris Johnston, and Tristan Stagger race in the 60m. Williams is currently the school co-record holder in the event, with a top time of 7.66. The senior sprinter has come in first place in every 60m race of the season thus far. At 6:55 p.m., Terah Cheatham, Matthew Graham and Luke Rygh compete in the mile run, followed by the 400m dash featuring Lauren Bales, Kyra Coffey, Gabe Harris, Matthew Holland, Gilbert Lifton, Patrick Smith and Stagger. Concluding the competition, Coffey, Jessica Rodriguez, Mary Cate Quiett, and Williams pass along the baton in the 4x400m relay. Smith, Gabe Vargas, Erik Felt, and Harris are all slated to run in the men’s relay. Full results will be posted after the completion of the meet at www.depaulbluedemons.com
