Stephanie Williams Wins Fourth Consecutive 60m Race



NOTRE DAME, Ind. The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field squads walked away from the Notre Dame Indoor Opener with two top finishes and nine BIG EAST Conference qualifying marks.  Stephanie Williams and Mary Cate Quiett both earned first place finishes for the Blue Demons.

Williams, who has yet to lose a 60m race this season, tallied her fourth win in the event with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 7.94m.  She went on to take second place in the 200m with a time of 24.96, surpassing the conference standard 25.50.

Mary Cate Quiett earned her first win in the 800m this season with a time of 2:17.69.  Quiett currently holds the school record in the event with a time of 2:11.

Terah Cheatham picked up her first BIG EAST nod of the season in the mile run with a fifth place time of 5:07.42.

Also earning BIG EAST qualifying marks was Virginia MacFabe, whose season-best weight throw of 15.49m put her in fourth place.  Melissa Fraser finished just one spot behind her with a throw of 15.07m.

The 4x400m relay team of Kelcie Daniels, Jessica Rodriguez, Quiett, and Willams took second place, with a time of 4:04.86.

In the men’s competition, Joe Strawder placed second in the long jump, leaping a distance of 6.84m.  The mark is Strawder’s third conference qualifying jump of the season.

In the 200m, Gilbert Lifton lowered his season-best time to 22.63 to place second.  Tristan Stager, Patrick Smith, and Jamil Chammas all placed in the top-ten with times of 22.87, 22.91, and 23.30, respectively.

Gabe Harris, as well as Lifton, placed in the top-ten in the 400m.  Harris recorded a fourth place time of 49.40, while Lifton placed sixth behind a time of 49.75.  Both marks meet the conference standards of 49.84.

Millar earned his fourth conference qualifying mark of the season in the weight throw, hitting a distance of 16.91m for fourth place.

The Blue Demons return to action Friday, Jan. 23, when they travel to Allendale, Mich. for the Bob Eubanks Invitational at Grand Valley State.
