Track and Field Teams Compete at Central Collegiate Championships This Weekend
CHICAGO - The Blue Demon men;s and women's track and field teams travel to Champaign, Ill., this weekend to compete in the two-day Central Collegiate Championships on Friday and Saturday. The meet will be hosted by the University of Illinois and take place at the Armory on Fourth Street & Armory Drive. On Friday, DePaul will compete in the weight throw and 200-meter dash beginning at 4:00 p.m. The remaining events start at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Both squads hope to build on their success after a strong weekend at the Carthage College Invitational. The Blue Demon men and women each took home fourth place overall at the meet. The women’s team was led by three first place finishes and three second place finishes. Erica Scott controlled the 400-meter dash, while Marlene Key secured the top spot in the 3000-meter run. Jamie Holifield finished off the weekend with a victory in the weight throw. On the men’s side, two individual firsts, as well as three second-place spots, paced the Blue Demons. Larry Inanga broke the meet record in the 55-meter dash and Rashard Deleston recorded a first place finish in the long jump. After DePaul returns home from the Central Collegiate Championships, preparation begins for the Notre Dame Indoor Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on January 29th.
