DePaul Underclassmen Shine at Notre Dame Opener

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams faced their toughest competition so far this season at the Notre Dame Opener on Friday in the Loftus Sports Complex.  Although no team scores were recorded, several Blue Demon underclassmen posted solid performances against a field that included Western Michigan, Loyola-Chicago, Michigan State, Butler and Notre Dame.

 

Sophomore Allyson Petersen posted a personal best time of 1:18.68 as she took first place in the women’s 500m.  Freshman Gabe Harris also snatched a first place victory, notching a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 46.87 to claim the men’s 400m crown. 

 

In addition, the DePaul men’s 4x400m relay team finished ahead of Notre Dame and Loyola-Chicago to take first place with a time of 3:21.31.

 

Sophomore Ryan Thompson represented the Blue Demons in the men’s long jump and hit a mark of 6.48m to take second place behind Jonathan Allen of Michigan State.  Also, junior Jamie Holifield remained competitive in the women’s weight throw, finishing third with a distance of 15.38m.

 

DePaul’s indoor season continues Friday, January 27 at the IU Invite in Bloomington, Indiana.
