Blue Demons Roll to Third Place Finish
Kenosha, Wis.--Both the DePaul men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Carthage College Division I Invite this past weekend finishing in the top half of the field. The men's team, who finished with 97.50 points, placed third out of eight teams finishing behind Marquette (166.50) and Wisconsin-Milwaukee (99). The women finished fourth with 60 points finishing behind Marquette (216), Carthage (112.50) and Wisconsin-Milwaukee (73). On the men's side, junior Jarrod Jahnke recorded a personal best in the weight throw claiming the top spot with a throw of 16.06m. He also placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 14.48m. Junior Luis Samayoa claimed the top spot in the 3,000 meter run while senior Chris Birchall placed second in the mile run. In the sprints, senior Aaron Cherrington finished in second place in the 200 meters while senior Andrae McPherson placed second in the 55 meter high hurdles. The women were led by sophomore Erin Moffett who finished second in the mile run and junior Katie Sullivan who finished second in the high jump. Sullivan recorded a mark of 5'01.75. Sophomore Diana Runnels placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.11 finishing behind Monieka Thompson of UIC (58.57) and Jeannette Batie of Marquette (59.04). Both teams continue the indoor season Saturday, January 26, at the Central Collegiates and Kent State University.
