Blue Demons Compete at Notre Dame Indoor Opener

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The women’s indoor track and field team competed in the Notre Dame Indoor Opener on Friday night in the Loftus Sports Center.  DePaul was one of five teams competing joining host Notre Dame with Ball State, Loyola-Chicago and Western Michigan.  There was no team scoring at the meet.

Jenna LeRoy and Erika Lockhart continued their strong starts to the indoor season by finishing second and third in the shot put.  LeRoy was second with a season-best distance of 12.65 meters and was followed by Lockhart with a mark of 12.38 meters.  Ball State’s Karmen Marby won the event with a distance of 12.72 meters.

Diana Runnels finished second in the 500-meter dash.  Racing in the fastest of three sections, she took second place with a time of 1:16.20.  Notre Dame’s Tiffany Gunn won the event in 1:13.41.

The Blue Demons return to South Bend next Friday for the Notre Dame Invitational.  Joining DePaul at the meet will be host Notre Dame, Michigan State and Marquette.
