Burris Breaks DePaul Record at Carle/Health Alliance Invitational
Burris threw the shot put 13.31m, breaking Montia Gardner’s school-record mark of 13.25m that was set in 2001. Burris placed fourth in the event, scoring four points while surpassing the BIG EAST Championship qualifying standard of 12.50m for the third time this season. Senior Jamie Holifield notched a throw of 12.81m in her first shot put qualifying performance this season.
In addition to posting a record-breaking distance in the shot put, Burris won the women’s weight throw, scoring 10 points with a mark of 17.96m. Holifield notched a throw of 17.17m to score four points and place fourth, while freshman Virginia MacFabe recorded a distance of 16.03m to finish seventh. Burris, Holifield and MacFabe all exceeded the qualifying standard of 15.25m for their fifth consecutive meet.
On the track, senior Claire Duck scored eight points for DePaul by taking second place in the women’s 800m run with a time of 2:16.13. Her performance broke through the qualifying standard of 2:17.04.
The Blue Demon men picked up 10 points in track events. Senior Richard Byrne scored two points in the mile run, finishing sixth with a time of 4:35.81. Freshman Nick Schaefer also gave DePaul two points by finishing fifth in the men’s 800m run with a time of 1:58.61, while freshman Eoin Dunne finished sixth in the men’s 3,000m run with a time of 8:52.63 to score two points. Sophomore Z Stein and freshman Luke Rygh passed the baton with Byrne and Schaefer in the 4x400m relay to place fifth and earn four points.
In the men’s weight throw, freshmen Brad Millar and Curtis Hoag placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Millar notched a distance of 16.58m to score four points, while Hoag posted a mark of 15.56m to score two points. Both Blue Demons exceeded the qualifying standard of 14.97m.
