Blue Demons Finish Eighth at Central Collegiates



Kent, Ohio--The men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Central Collegiates at Kent State University this past weekend. The men finished in eighth place out of thirteen teams while the women posted an eighth place finish out of nine teams.

On the women's side, junior Katie Sullivan recorded a school and personal record in the high jump with a jump of 5'05.75. Sullivan's previous best was a 5'01.75 mark which she posted at the Carthage Invite last weekend. Senior Montia Gardner finished sixth in the weight throw with a 51'08.25 mark. In the mile run, sophomore Erin Moffett finished third with a time of 5:02.70 while sophomore Diana Runnels placed fifth in the 400 meter dash.

The men were led by senior Carey Ryan who improved his school record mark in the weight throw. Ryan recorded a throw of 67'06.25 winning the event easily. Senior Frank Guzman finished in fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 56'04.00.

Junior Luis Samayda recorded a 4:11.83 time in the mile run on his way to a seventh place finish while senior Chris Birchall followed behind in eighth place with a time of 4:12.49.

Both teams are back in action Saturday, February 2, at Kentucky's Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington.
