Four Second-Place Finishes Pace Women's Track
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Second-place finishes in four events led the DePaul women’s indoor track and field team at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday night in South Bend. The Blue Demons joined host Notre Dame, Butler, Marquette and Michigan State at the Loftus Sports Center for the non-scoring meet.
Erika Lockhart led the field events with a second-place finish in the long jump. Her distance of 5.20 meters (17’0.75”) put her behind Michigan State’s Taren James at 5.72 meters (18’9.25”).
Diana Runnels, who set DePaul’s 500-meter indoor record last week at Notre Dame, finished second this week in the 400-meter dash. Her time of 58.16 was just behind Notre Dame’s Ayesha Boyd at 55.79.
Runnels was also part of the second-place 4x400-meter relay squad. The Blue Demon team of Dee Moore, Leah Rygh, Trina Knight and Runnels finished in 4:02.22 behind the winning team from Michigan State at 3:55.17.
In the distance events, Erin Moffett took second in the 3000-meter run. She completed the race in a time of 9:58.14. Molly Huddle of host Notre Dame won the event in 9:14.13.
The Blue Demons take a week off before splitting up in two weeks. Members of the track and field team will compete at both the Iowa State Classic and the Lewis University Invitational on Feb. 13-14.
