Track and Field Completes Qualifying Rounds at Indiana Relays
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams advanced student-athletes in 12 events during day one of the Indiana Relays. Mary Cate Quiett qualified as the top-seed in the 800m and Melissa Fraser, Joe Strawder, and Brad Millar earned top-five seeds for the final rounds of competition on Saturday. Quiett posted a season-best 2:13.07 to place first in the 800m. Toni Salvatore and Kelly Pickering also qualified for tomorrow’s final with times of 2:21.47 and 2:23.97, respectively. Alanna Kovacs placed in the top-ten with her shot put preliminary performance of 12.51m. Ebonie Cobb snagged the final spot in qualification with her 12th place throw of 11.99m. In the weight throw, Fraser, MacFabe, and Millar all advanced to the final round. Fraser placed fifth with a personal-record throw of 15.73m. This is the second time in as many meets that the sophomore has hit BIG EAST Conference qualifying marks. Virginia MacFabe also advanced to the finals after recording a 14.94, placing ninth. Millar advanced in the men’s weight throw after placing fourth with a conference qualifying distance of 17.54m Strawder, Ivy Moffett, and Cynthia Edwards will represent the Blue Demon jumpers in the finals tomorrow. Strawder advanced in both the triple jump and long jump after recording a 14.25m and 6.99m, respectively. Both distances meet the BIG EAST qualifying standard. Stephanie Williams continued to post conference qualifying marks in the 60m and 200m. The senior enters tomorrow’s finals with seed times of 7.79 and 25.10. Semi-final, final, and invitational rounds of competition resume on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (CST)
