Track and Field to Compete at Akron Open



CHICAGO- The DePaul track and field teams get a preview of the 2006 BIG EAST Indoor Championship site this weekend as they compete at the Akron Open in Akron, Ohio.  The meet, hosted by the University of Akron, begins Friday at 5:15 p.m. and wraps up Saturday evening.

 

No team scores will be kept as the Blue Demons take on a field that includes BIG EAST squads from Pittsburgh and West Virginia, as well as Ohio State, Eastern Michigan, Buffalo, Western Carolina and Bucknell.

 

Lindsey Deason begins the competition for DePaul in Friday’s pentathlon events, beginning at 5:15 p.m. in the Akron Fieldhouse.  Saturday’s events kick off with Ryan Thompson in the men’s long jump and Webster Jones in the men’s high jump.

 

At 3:45 p.m., Anthony Becknek and Richard Byrne take on the men’s mile.  Gabe Harris and Kyra Coffey will represent DePaul in the men’s and women’s 400m at 4:20 p.m., while Stephanie Williams is slotted for the women’s 200m dash.

 

Carrie Moffett competes in the women’s 3,000m at 5:15 p.m., while the meet concludes at 5:45 p.m. with the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays.
