Track and Field Wraps Up Indiana Relays
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. Seven Blue Demons posted BIG EAST Conference Championship qualifying performances as the DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams closed out the Indiana Relays on Saturday. Stephanie Williams and Mary Cate Quiett recorded personal-best times at Gladstein Fieldhouse. Williams finished third in the women’s 200m dash with a time of 24.73. It marks her fourth race this season better than the BIG EAST standard of 25.50 and the first sub-25.00 race of her collegiate career. The women’s mile run saw Quiett break the five-minute mark for the first time of her collegiate career as she finished fourth with a time of 4:57.29. Claire Duck followed in sixth place with a time of 5:01.09. Both DePaul runners satisfied the BIG EAST standard of 5:08.44. Quiett also placed second in the women’s 600m run with a time of 1:34.42. Gabe Harris and Gabe Vargas recorded two more BIG EAST qualifications in the men’s races. Harris took third place in the 400m dash with a time of 48.97; his fourth time this year better than the BIG EAST standard of 49.84. Vargas finished third in the 200m dash with a season-best time of 22.58; his third race this year better than the standard of 22.69. For the second consecutive day, Brad Millar and Joe Strawder headlined DePaul’s showing in the field events. Strawder cleared a distance of 7.09m in the long jump for a third-place finish. It stands as his sixth jump this year better than the BIG EAST standard of 6.55m. Millar placed sixth in the weight throw with an 18.11m toss; his sixth throw this year better than the BIG EAST standard of 14.97m. Patrick Smith, Ryan Moore and Gilbert Lifton passed the baton with Harris in the men’s 4x400m relay. The Blue Demon team took fifth place with a season-best time of 3:16.13. A squad of DePaul athletes also competed at the University of Chicago Duals on Saturday. The Blue Demons won four events at Henry Crown Fieldhouse. The women's shot put saw Ebonie Cobb take first place with a 12.43m throw, while Terah Cheatham finished first in the women's 3,000m run with a time of 10:18.41. Stephanie Hughes won the women's mile run with a time of 5:23.75 and Shauna Lurey took the women's 200m crown with a time of 26.60. DePaul returns to action next weekend at Notre Dame’s Meyo Invitational. The meet runs Friday and Saturday at the Loftus Center in Notre Dame, Indiana.
