Brad Millar Claims Second Consecutive BIG EAST Athlete of the Week Award

CHICAGO - For the second consecutive week, senior thrower Brad Millar was named BIG EAST Conference Field Athlete of the week.   The DePaul men's and women's track and field squads have now claimed a record-setting four Athlete of the Week awards this season, second only to league foe Louisville.

Millar, a native of Port Elgin, Ontario, once again stood out as he dominated the weight throw at the Indiana Relays on Jan. 29.  His first throw was a career-best and NCAA provisional qualifying 20.48m, beating his competitors by over a meter.  He currently stands at eighth on the NCAA list, atop the BIG EAST ranks and is the only BIG EAST student-athlete to have an NCAA provisional-qualifying mark in the weight throw.

While perennial power Louisville has claimed seven weekly honors thus far, the Blue Demons rank just behind the Cardinals with four.  In addition, Millar is just one of two student-athletes to earn the recognition more than once.  Louisville's Jere Summers has also been named Female Field Athlete of the week twice for her stellar performances in the throws.

Last season, Millar was the BIG EAST runner-up in the weight throw after hitting a then-personal record distance of 19.64m.  In addition, Millar became the sixth-ever Blue Demon to earn a bid to the NCAA Championship after placing fourth in the hammer throw at the Mideast Regional Championship.

Millar joins Matthew Graham as the only Blue Demon within the cross country and track and field programs to earn Athlete of Week honors on three occasions throughout the course of their careers.  Earlier this season, Mary Cate Quiett and Joe Strawder also won the weekly tribute for their efforts at the Blue and Gold Meet.

Rounding out the list of this week's awardees include Villanova's Sheila Reid, Priscilla Fredrick of St. John's and Chris Kinney of Georgetown.

Millar and Co. return to action this weekend, Feb. 5-6, for the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
